To our SSFUSD Community,

We have been informed by the South San Francisco Police Department (SSFPD) of the arrest of one of our teachers.

We are both dismayed and saddened by this news.

As released in a statement to our Westborough Middle School community on April 27, 2018, we were made aware of allegations that one of our teachers may have engaged in inappropriate conduct with students. Any allegation against an employee is taken very seriously and handled carefully. As soon as the site was made aware, they involved the District Office and the South San Francisco Police Department, and we have been in touch with the parents of the students who were involved.

Prior to criminal charges being filed, SSFUSD placed the individual in question on administrative leave while the matter was being investigated. The teacher remains on administrative leave and will no longer be on any of our campuses pending the outcome of this case. District and school leaders are cooperating closely with SSFPD officers as they continue their criminal investigation.

Our students and staff will receive our full support as we continue to ensure a safe learning environment for our school community. In order to ensure that student learning is not disrupted, we have assigned a qualified, long-term substitute teacher to the classroom.

While I understand that our community will have questions about this case, it is important to understand that we have a strict legal obligation to ensure that due process and privacy rights are upheld; therefore, we cannot provide any details or further explanation at this time.

Should you have questions or additional information as it relates to this case, please contact the South San Francisco Police Department at 650-877-8900. SSFPD Press Release

Sincerely,

Shawnterra Moore, Ed.D.

Superintendent

SSFPD Press Release

Sinceramente,

Shawnterra Moore, Ed.D.

Superintendente

Hello Parents/Guardians,

The start date for Season 2 of the widely popular teen TV show, “13 Reasons Why”, was just announced to air May 18th 2018. In preparation of that date, we are sure many of our youth will be re-watching season 1 again. We want to remind you that while it might be ok for older teens that are fairly well adjusted and feel supported to watch this show, it can be very triggering for those that are not, or who have had trauma or thoughts of suicide. We want to  encourage you to watch it with your child, and have discussions afterwards. The actual show has put forth some discussion questions and points that parents can use to start the conversation.

Your school needs you to complete this online survey to learn more about your opinions about it. This survey is an opportunity to communicate your perceptions about your child’s school.  This letter explains the survey and, at the bottom of the page, provides your login, password and access instructions. If you have any questions about this survey, contact Dr. Valerie Garrett at vgarrett@ssfusd.org.

You will have access to this online survey beginning March 26, 2018.

The purpose of this survey is to obtain parent perceptions about the school.

Your participation is voluntary. It is also very important. The information you provide will help guide district and school efforts to promote safety, enhance learning supports, and improve student achievement.

•             This is an anonymous survey.  It is designed so that no one can be identified from the data.  You do not have to respond to any questions that you feel could be used to identify you.  Simply skip any such questions.

•             All questions apply to this school only.

•             The results are for the use of your district.  The California Department of Education and WestEd will preserve data confidentiality and refer any data requests to the district.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ACCESSING THE SURVEY

If you have more than one child at this school, you will only need to complete one survey for this school. Please fill out just one survey about the school using your oldest child as a reference.
