Special Education Classes

Academic Support Class: "Tutorial"

     As determined by an IEP committee, special needs students have the opportunity to receive Academic Support in Language Arts, Math, and study skills, through a one period class taught by an Academic Support Specialist.  This class, called Tutorial, is in addition to a general education  Language Arts and Math classes, meets every other day for 85 minutes,  and takes the place of an elective, Science, or Social Studies class.

 

Academic Instruction Class

     As determined by an IEP committee, special needs students have the opportunity to receive Academic Instruction in language arts, math, social studies, and science through classes taught by Academic Instruction Specialists.  These classes replace the general education language arts, math, social studies, and science classes, and are geared toward meeting the individualized needs of the student in each subject area.  Students may take one or any combination of classes offered as determined by the IEP committee.  A typical Academic Instruction Class schedule consists of two periods of Language Arts, two periods of Math, one period of Social Studies, one period of Science, and one period of general education PE.  Eighth graders who exit out of Read 180 have one elective class also.
